Skin-friendly Desserts

The dreaded sugar…

Why is sugar so bad for the skin? Sugar causes glycation which breaks down the collagen and elastin in the skin structure and this leads to skin that is more likely to wrinkle.

Anyone who has been without sugar in their diet for 5 days minimum can confirm the clearing effect this has on their skin. But, if you’re anything like me, it is hard to maintain this if you get sweet cravings. So here’s a little treat for you: a sugar-free raw cacao truffle.

Raw Cacao Truffles

100g medjool dates, soaked in warm water for about a minute
2 handfuls of ground almonds (just blitz them in a food processor until powdery)
2 tablespoons organic coconut oil
2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Blend all of the above in a food processor until smooth. Use your hands to roll them into ball shapes. Put on a plate and place in the fridge until it sets. Enjoy – they are absolutely delicious!
