We get asked a lot about the root of the name Elethea and how it relates to our luxury beauty brand.
Elethea stems from Eileithyia, the ancient Greek goddess of birth and fertility. She was worshipped in times where many women did not survive childbirth. Women prayed to her to help relieve them of their labour pains and for healthy babies. There are many shrines dedicated to her across Greece.
We’ve adapted the name to make it easier to spell and we feel that it is a very fitting name for our skincare range because we have sourced our key ingredient – our algae complex – from the Rift Valley, which is believed to be the birthplace of all of our ancestors, a place which unifies us all through history.
